Let's Make Up Our Minds, Shall We?

In the spring of 1966, a Canadian magazine printed these two ads within weeks of each other. Both feature lissome young models in panty girdles, but the copy shows that even back in the Good Old Days, ad-men couldn't quite figure out the best way to talk a girl into a girdle...

The Young Thing by Warner's
Just a little bit more than something to hang your stockings on.

Look, you young thing. This is The Young Thing. Nobody could call it a girdle. It can't handle middle-aged spread, Big Bertha bulges, droopy derrieres. There's just enough to skinny you in a bit-- tummy, fanny, and hip. Isn't that all a young thing like you needs? The Young Thing is a mere snip of nylon and uncovered Lycra spandex, with a lacy little panel in the front, a tiny tear-drop flattener in back. Next time you hook your stockings up, remember. The Young Thing by Warner's. It's really not much.

Does your sheer little pantie girdle hold up your stockings
while you have to hold in your tummy?

Then something's wrong. A good girdle should be more than a garter belt. Take Gossard's Answerette. Even though it's only a few ounces of nylon and Lycra spandex, it's not just another lightweight. Exclusive criss-cross bands hold in your tummy and curve your upper hip, then reach down in back to round your derriere, naturally. Answerette's one sheer little panty girdle that does do everything. Even hold up your stockings.

At least they both agree that girdles do a good job of holding up stockings!
