Everything you'll ever need to know about opening your own corset salon!

The generosity of a Zona reader has made available the entire text of this 1963 corsetiere's guide. Readers who recall Johannah Letz's A Youthful Figure Is Forever will find this book an interesting contrast. Although ostensibly published at about the same time, Mrs. Goldman displays sensibilities that seem perhaps a generation younger than Miss Letz. Not only is she far easier of manner than the imperious dowager seen in Johannah Letz, she is more accepting of such "innovations" as panty girdles and corselettes.

On occasion, though, we are reminded of how much the conceptions of "woman's place" has changed since 1963, as in her discussion of maternity girdles, which points out their importance to

...the girl or woman who must keep her job as long as her boss will let her stay...

Indeed!

Herewith is the entire text (sans one or two charts that were stubbornly resistant to HTML coding) of Profitable Corset and Brassiere Merchandising. Most Zona readers will find the section on History Of Fashion In The The American Corset And Brassiere Industry and Fitting to be of greatest interest, but scholars will find the entire work a valuable reference.
