A Note To Scholars and Researchers

I have made extensive effort to ensure that Zona will be a useful source of information for scholars seeking information on the custom of girdle-wearing, and that the material presented within can be trusted as authentic. Researchers should be aware of the following caveats:

  • I have, on occasion, felt it necessary to alter names and other minor details when it seemed that failure to do so might compromise a contributor’s privacy. No alterations have been, or will be, made that would effect the substance of a contribution.

  • The Roundtable Discussions were originally assembled by collection of posts from Usenet newsgroups and other forums; as time has passed, they have been augmented by messages sent specifically for this venue. Especially in the case of the earliest entries, I have felt free to arrange the sequence of messages in order to enhance narrative flow; however, I have attempted to preserve the sense of discussions to the best of my judgment and ability.

  • I have performed typical editing chores on many contributions, condensing freely, and correcting minor errors in grammar, punctuation, and spelling. However, with material from Americans, Canadians, Englishmen, Irishmen, Australians, and New Zealanders, along with numerous contributions from speakers of English as a second language, the reader will find countless variations on the spelling of terms such as “panty girdle” or “pantie girdle,” “corsolette” or “corselet,” and so on. Sometimes I have attempted a Quixotic effort at standardization (standardisation); just as often I have given up. The result is an inconsistent hodge-podge. Deal with it.

  • Most importantly: I am painfully aware that, on the Internet, it's easy to pretend to be someone you are not. One should read everything on the Net with a high degree of skepticism, this collection not excluded. I believe that the vast majority of material presented on these pages is authentic, and that the writers identified as women are indeed genuine females. Having read through literally thousands of e-mails and discussion posts on the subject of girdles, I have developed a variety of techniques- which I will not detail for obvious reasons- that I believe are relatively effective in filtering out impostors. I must admit, though, that I have only met or spoken to a tiny handful of the authors, and could only testify in court as to the gender of a dozen or so. Caveat lector.
