A few days after New Year's, 1998, I received a most interesting parcel from a reader. The package contained a bundle of letters that had been found in a cupboard in a Victorian house under demolition. The letters, though old and fading, still smelled faintly of perfume. The ribbon that bound them was pink…

No, wait a minute. It didn't happen that way. Electronic communication just isn't that romantic. What I received was an archive of files, containing a remarkable exchange of messages between two women: the prim and reflective Reynardine, and the earthy, yet very perceptive, Lucinda.

These letters lay bare the most intimate thoughts and emotions of two women. They tell, sometimes shyly, sometimes frankly, of their deepest sexual urges, and of the roles that girdles and corsets play in their erotic lives. As the two become ever-better acquainted, they open up additional portions of their secret lives, as well. The letters may be titillating or shocking to some, but if approached with the sense of reverence and privilege that they deserve, they can be, instead, enlightening.

The files came in no particular order, and I have done my best to arrange them in what seems to be the correct chronological sequence. Even so, there are huge gaps, and occasional inconsistencies. Some of the letters had no signature, and I could only guess at the authorship using stylistic and contextual clues.

Are these women real, or are they characters in a writer's fantasy? Readers must judge for themselves. All I can say is that I know and trust the person who sent the files. I have edited the letters, here and there, for brevity, or where I thought that details provided might compromise the writers' privacy. Beyond that, these letters are, to the best of my belief, accurate depictions of the thoughts of brave women who found kinship on the Internet.

Please be aware before you read any further: these letters are frank and sexually explicit. If you find this sort of thing objectionable, please do not continue.
