From SeventeenChristmas 1963- a holiday poised on the cusp of two eras. Many say that it was at this time that "The Sixties" as we now remember them truly began. The nation was still reeling from the murder of its young President. In a few weeks a British pop group called the Beatles would make their first American appearance. Mere months away was the Gulf of Tonkin incident and the expansion of the Vietnam War. The December, 1963 issue of Seventeen presented a fashion feature that unwittingly illustrated how swiftly tastes were about to change . The garments presented- girdles, slips, and pettipants- would all be in disfavor by the end of the decade.
